The team of experts leading an independent review into racism within Scottish cricket and an anti-racism campaign group have issued a renewed appeal for those who have experienced or witnessed racism, inequalities or discrimination to come forward.
Scotland’s national agency for sport, sportscotland, appointed global equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) experts Plan4Sport to carry out the review in December 2021. That process is now underway with a significant number of people having already reached out.

Scotland’s national agency for sport, sportscotland, appointed global equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) experts Plan4Sport to carry out the review in December 2021. That process is now underway with a significant number of people having already reached out.
The completely independent process is being ed by Running Out Racism – a group of cricket players, s and fans – who are campaigning to eradicate racism and discrimination of any kind from Scottish cricket.
Racism, inequalities and discrimination can take many forms including physical abuse and racial slurs. It can also be indirect and relate to being treated differently in some way. This might result in less opportunities or being excluded. Regardless of what form it takes, racism and inequality have no place in cricket and that is why the review has been launched.
Plan4Sport is currently carrying out a full review of cricket policies and procedures at national, regional and club level, to help identify where racism or racial inequalities could occur. This work is being undertaken in line with equality, diversity and inclusion best practice and will also help identify other experiences that people may want to share.
They have also launched a confidential service and are conducting an in-depth consultation exercise covering all levels of Scottish cricket. Central to this piece of work, will be interviews with past and present of the following groups:
- Grassroots players
- Coaches
- Umpires
- Club volunteers
- Performance players (men’s and women’s teams)
- s
- Interviews with each Regional Association Management Committee
- Staff of Cricket Scotland
- Board of Cricket Scotland
Further community consultation will take place before a report and associated recommendations are published by Plan4Sport, with sportscotland responsible for holding the governing body to on all areas of the report’s implementation.
While Plan4Sport carries out the independent review, Running Out Racism will be available to provide advocacy to anyone affected by racism, inequalities or discrimination and who are looking for additional during the process itself.

Plan4Sport recognise that people may still have concerns about coming forward and will also be launching an anonymous survey in March so that everyone can share their experiences.
